Finding Your Super Power

By Rev, L.A. Holman, Minister, Spiritual Teacher

The day I discovered my superpower was my first day at a new job. Despite feeling depressed, I knew I had to make a good impression, so I decided to pretend to be a positive person. To take on a persona, you have to think like the character and act accordingly. I spent the entire morning smiling at everyone, being cheerful and helpful.

A few hours later, I found myself no longer pretending. I genuinely felt cheerful. The feeling was unfamiliar, and to my surprise, it also irritated me. Being a victim was easier than being accountable for my feelings. I realized I was invested in my misery and didn’t want to relinquish my self-pity.

Pretending had turned into reality, activating equivalent feelings. This revelation showed me that I could control my feelings with my thoughts. Instead of seeing myself as a victim, by choosing different thoughts, I could become anything I wanted.

The transition from victim to victor took time. It was a gradual process at first. I struggled and often fell back into negative thought patterns. Then, there was a quantum leap, and my thoughts began to automatically focus on possibilities instead of limitations. I had found my superpower: the ability to consciously train my thoughts to look for opportunities instead of obstacles, to seek the good instead of the bad. It changed my life.

Your Superpower: Your Thoughts
You have thousands of thoughts every day. Most are automatic and hidden from your awareness, implanted in childhood and part of your subconscious mind and belief system. These thoughts tend to be negative for almost everyone.

Simple Exercise to Uncover and Optimize Your Superpower

  1.  Hourly Check-In: Every hour, stop what you are doing and write down your thoughts. When you feel self-doubt, fear, anger, or anxiety, write down the thought preceding the emotion.
  2. Identify Patterns: After several days, you will recognize the offending thoughts and the patterns limiting your potential.
  3. Replace Old Thoughts: Awareness empowers change. You can replace old thoughts and incorporate new, positive ones into your mind. Affirmations are an easy way to start. Decide what you want and start telling yourself you already have it. Visualize the desired outcome.

You become what you feed your mind. Use positive words, read and watch uplifting programs, and take classes. Being in a group can accelerate growth.

Positive thoughts attract positive results. Your intuition will guide you in making good decisions Patience, persistence, and practice is required. Your efforts will pay off.

Make the most of your superpower because you are worth it.
